About this Event
Celebrating the life and work of Paisley weaver poet Robert Tannahill, join Professor Fred Freeman at Paisley Central Library for an engaging talk.
Especially where Scots song is concerned, Tannahill was absolutely ‘true’ to the tradition he had inherited. Like Burns, he was a master of the subtle use of musical forms (strathspeys, reels, jigs, etc) and tonalities; a perspicacious exponent of Scots language as the medium for song and balladry; an artist wholly cognisant of the great Scots literary canon - and painfully aware of his own responsibility in carrying the tradition forward.
This is the third of three new lectures on Robert Tannahill by Professor Fred Freeman.; a multimedia presentation with musical examples from Freeman’s Tannahill CD series and graphic art illustrations.
