Martin Vicente & Ayelen Urrutia—they are a couple who can make people both cry and marvel with their performances; and make dancers, even professionals, yearn for their next class. We’ve admired them since we first met in 2019. Today, they continue to captivate the European tango scene with their rare blend of tradition, style, and innovation. We’re thrilled to welcome them back to Stockholm.
The ‘authenticity’ of their dance comes from how they approach tango: “not only as a cultural heritage, but as a living practice that resonates with everyone, in every era,” and from the ‘honesty’ with which they embody it. While mainstream tango often leans toward learning and teaching structures detached from their original contexts, Martín and Ayelén remain fully committed to their own path of vigorous research: constantly conversing with tradition while letting their dance express “who they are, today”. For them, every tango step is a word that builds a story—intimate, and therefore universal.
So when names like 🌀 José Brahemcha, “El Turco” José, Finito, Mingo Pugliese, Cacho Mantegaza, Petroleo, Gerardo Portalea, Lampazo, Orlando Paiva, Lita Filipini, or Manolo come up—as they will throughout this weekend—your head will no longer spin. 💡 You will recognize them as maestro friends who once walked these paths. They are pioneers not only of steps but of dynamics, methods, and signatures that still offer invaluable insights and inspire us to create our own language to say ‘who we truly are’.
The workshop series concludes with “historical footage analysis” and a session to “create your own milonguero basics”. That says it all: you are in for a tango odyssey that will carry you to the Golden Age of tango and back to yourself in 2025.

Every step and every cross carries meaning; it’s how we express ourselves in relation to the music. We can begin expanding our tango vocabulary by recognising the depth within simplicity.
Together, we will explore different ways to:
• Initiate the basic steps—from stillness / on the second beat / with syncopation / from the embrace / or with minimal or delayed lead
• Vary our crosses as expressive gestures—early, delayed, rhythmic, or replaced
• Exercise active pause and listening

—”𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨” (𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨) 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘚𝘵𝘺𝘭𝘦 & 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦
In Argentine Spanish, the word “resolver” (literally ‘to resolve’) is used in tango to mean how you finish or conclude a movement or sequence—how you close it, ground it, or land it. It’s about finding creative, elegant, and musically satisfying ways to • end a phrase • change direction • or shift from one movement to another—not about solving a problem, but about completing something beautifully.
We will:
• Discover how to *resolve* your movements — finding elegance, rhythm, and presence in every closure, axis change, and weight shift.
• Explore *improvisation* through detours, dynamic contrasts, and paint the movements with expressive embellishments
✨ Inspired by the legacy of: Cacho Mantegaza, Petroleo, and Gerardo Portalea.
🔵 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝟮 | 𝟭𝟲.𝟯𝟬–(until we are satisfied)
—𝘞𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦: 𝘚𝘢𝘺 𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘈𝘳𝘦.
In tango, the “caminata” is more than a walk. It’s a story: stories of neighbourhoods, times, cultures, and individuality. It has been born, passed on, reinterpreted, and reinvented through generations. Just as each of us has our own body and gait that carries our life story, so does our tango walk. A walk is a signature—an expression of who we are.
We’ll explore and embody different styles:
• Lampazo – rhythmic & grounded
• Orlando Paiva – elegant
• Lito Filipini – precise & sensitive
• Manolo – playful
𝗗𝗔𝗬-𝟯 | Sunday, Oct 19th
📍 Blå & Svarta Rummet, Konradsbergsgatan 2B
🔵 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝟯 | 𝟭𝟯.𝟬𝟬–𝟭𝟰.𝟭𝟱 (In Blå Rummet)
—𝘔𝘪𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘳𝘰 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯*
Improvisation is the living pulse of tango’s heart. Being a milonguero—a true social dancer—means creating spontaneous movement phrases within the embrace, balancing rhythm, intuition, and play. Think of those legendary dancers who sat (or sit) at the same table every week at Milonga Baldosa or Gente Amiga in Buenos Aires, then lit (or light) up the floor all evening. Their dance is full of musical wit, conversational phrasing, and deep sensitivity to the music, the crowd, and the community around them.
In this class, we will:
• Explore how to create movement phrases through simple variations
• Draw inspiration from the dancers who mastered spontaneity on the social floor
• Refine the art of connection and phrasing through musical dialogue — to lead, to listen, to respond (It takes two to tango!)
🌀 Final session highlights:
• Historical footage analysis 🎥
• Create your own milonguero basic: personal, grounded, and musical
*OBS. “Milonguero” here refers to the dancers, not the close-embrace style.
🔵 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝟰 | 𝟭𝟰.𝟯𝟬–𝟭𝟲.𝟬𝟬 (In Blå Rummet)
—𝘛𝘩𝘦 8-𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘰 (𝘛𝘶𝘳𝘯) 𝘣𝘺 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘰 𝘗𝘶𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴𝘦
The 8-position giro is one of Mingo Pugliese’s great legacies—a method that reveals the circular architecture of tango. It invites us to understand how axis, torsion, embrace, and rhythm interact to create turning movements that are both precise and expressive.
In this class, we will:
• Explore how to sustain a stable axis while keeping elasticity in the embrace
• Work with torsion and dissociation to generate flow and circularity
• Experiment with speed, density, and musical phrasing within the turn 🔄
From structure to spiral, we’ll discover how clarity becomes movement, and movement becomes music.
🔵 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝟱 | 𝟭𝟲.𝟭𝟱–”before 18.00” (In Svarta Rummet)
—𝘛𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘰 𝘍𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘪́𝘢 𝘢̀ 𝘭𝘢 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘰 𝘛𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘰
Antonio Todaro left a lasting mark on tango with his precise, elegant, and theatrical style. His Tango Fantasía combines technical clarity with expressive projection—inviting dancers to embody both discipline and artistry. In this class, we’ll explore how clean figures and structured phrasing can open space for musical imagination and stage presence.
🎭 Technique • Phrasing • Expression • “Proyección Escénica” (expressive presence: the ability to communicate your dance outward—with posture, energy, and clarity—so that your intention is seen and felt)
