Tango LOUNGE

Find a connection with your feet, connection with a dance partner and connection with the music. Connect with people on and off the dance floor. Watch dancers, be a dancer, listen to and move to the sounds made by Live Tango musicians, "Perth Tango Ensemble"

Beginning with a short 5 dimensional spinal flow sequence to enliven the spine and bring the body and mind to centre we will flow into an introduction to Tango class, designed specially for brand new beginners, people who just want to get a feel for what it is like to dance Tango and feel tango music and for seasoned dancers to feel the roots of their tango experience. After that the floor will open to social dancing with wonderful Perth Tango and Salsa DJ Gerard. Then , the sensational Perth Tango Ensemble will grace the sences with their beautiful Live Tango Music.

There will be food to purchase from 5 until 7pm.

At 5:15pm, Kirstie from Home of Yoga and Heart Place will guide you through a warm up to the spine and circulation, with a 5 dimensional Spinal flow Yoga for 30 minutes . No special clothes are required, and you will not put your hands or bottom on the floor. We have yoga mats. It is easy but it will warm you up. It is best without shoes on.

At 6pm Sharon Waterson will lead us through a Tango class designed to include complete newbies to Tango. Introduced to tango pre 2000 in Perth, Sharon has focussed on tango since her first trip to Buenos Aires in 2005. Having studied with different schools and teachers, learning tango through the ages from canyengue, traditional to contemporary, Sharon gained a teaching certificate in tango in 2009. Since then she has taught in many states within Australia. Her approach to teaching is building on strong techniques and principles, to develop a deeply connected dance to music, culture and a little fun. You do not need to bring a partner to do the Tango class.

At 7pm Gerard , will open the floor for social Dancing with his mix of modern Orchestras, traditional and Golden Age orchestras and some alternative, New Tangos.

At 8pm " Perth Tango Ensemble". This five instument Tango orchestra will take the stage and grace and delight the senses with the sounds and feel of live Tango music. Maria del Mar on vocals, Rebecca on Cello, Emily on Violin, Danilo on Accordion and Hugo on Guitar.

Towards the evening, the entertainment ramps up in another way with some Argentinian Chacarera , a very fun and firtatious folk dance.
