About this Event
Tameobit Wildlife Sanctuary is named for the Serrano village which existed in this area. This habitat is primarily saltbrush and Joshua tree-creosote brush scrub. A joint bioblitz between our chapter and the Antelope Valley Audubon Society last year produced 181 observations with 54 species. The delightfully chocolate-scented Mojave-aster (Xylorhiza tortifolia), Alkali heliotrope (Heliotropium curassavicum), and stately California thrasher (Toxostoma redivivum) were all observed here. Although Lovejoy Springs ceased flowing in this area immediately after a 1952 earthquake in Tehachapi this water likely still serves as groundwater here. Indications of this can be seen on the landscape in the form of Cottonwood trees, the unfortunate Arundo & Tamarisk, and a delightful line of Joshua trees. Last year’s iNaturalist bioblitz project can be observed HERE. Learn more about the archeology of this site HERE. This biobblitz will be led by Alana Dixon.
