Tamas Nagy: Guitar, Vocals
Tamas was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, his mother was from Koson in present day Ukraine. Early on he discovered his passion towards music, as a young guitarist he had interest in a wide range of musical genres. Since growing up in the heart of Europe his musical taste was defined by Budapest’s renowned underground scene, traditional folk, gypsy jazz and also classical music, such as the Dresch Quartet and Gabor Szabo. As he was seeking a deeper and more profound way of his artistic expression, he naturally gravitated towards the world of secular-eastern music. Over his career around Europe and in the United States he played in various bands and formations in which he incorporates his distinct musical style. For years, the idea of creating a completely acoustic musical environment has been emerging. Throughout many musical insights the Tamas Nagy Ekspérience was ready to unfold…
Jack Berry, bass
Jack’s great grandparents emigrated from Budapest and settled in New York City in the 1930s, his grandfather grew up speaking Hungarian and returned to Budapest many times as an adult. Jack began playing the cello in middle school. He switched to the upright bass in 2013 after joining the Pine View High School Jazz Band under the direction of trumpeter Victor Mongillo, whereupon graduating he received the prestigious Louis Armstrong Award for Jazz Excellence. He has toured & recorded locally & internationally with a variety of artists/genres including the Birman Jazz Club in Jerusalem, The Montréal International Jazz Festival with Grammy nominee the late New Orleans blind blues legend Bryan Lee, and most recently with Grammy award winning French gypsy jazz guitarist Stephane Wrembel. Jack also has performed on CNN, in Times Square, and continues work on an upcoming musical ‘Stop Making Trash’ with his DIY sustainability edutainment band ‘The Garbage-Men’
Jared Johnson percussion,
Jared started playing drums at 8 years old. Raised by a family of musicians, he was exposed to many genres of music including rock, jazz, funk, classical, latin, pop, and R&B. In middle school and high school he was part of the Booker Middle and High School Visual and Performing Arts Programs, participating in jazz, symphonic, and marching bands. He has since spent the last 15 years teaching drums and performing with a wide variety of acts around the US,
including Grammy-nominated blues artist Bryan Lee. While continuing to listen to and play a wide variety of genres, he currently focuses primarily on fusion and jazz music.
