Taller de Versada en el Fandango

Acompáñanos para un taller de la poesía del fandango jarocho al lado del Camino Del Río (Del Rio Trail). Durante este taller tomaremos un pequeño recorrido por el Camino Del Río para inspirar nuestro canto, y usaremos esas experiencias para componer versos colectivos, aprendiendo de la versada jarocha en el proceso. Habrán oportunidades para componer versos colectivamente e individualmente. Luego compartiremos esos versos en un fandango el domingo 28 de abril en Casa de Español. El taller será de cupo limitado; el fandango no. Si no logras inscribirte para el taller por favor todavía acompáñanos en el fandango, ahí te conectaremos con aún más oportunidades.

¡No se requiere experiencia previa para participar!

La experiencia se dividirá en cuatro partes: (1) explicación; (2) recorrido; (3) composición; y (4) fandango. El taller incluirá una explicación de la rima y métrica de la versada del fandango, un recorrido por el Camino Del Río, y ejercicios de composición colectiva y/o individual de versada basada en el camino. El fandango tomará lugar la siguiente semana, y ahí invitaremos a los participantes del taller a compartir sus versos.

El recorrido será corto, y solo tendrás que recorrer lo que te sientas a gusto caminando. Si quieres abarcar más del camino durante el tiempo del recorrido, también puedes traer una bici, patines, patineta, etc. Ojo que el parque es chico y no hay baño disponible.

El fandango es una fiesta musical participativa de Veracruz, México donde se toca la música de son jarocho. En el fandango, convivimos a través de la música, bailando zapateado y cantando versos con conexiones a la tierra, el amor, y la vida. Este taller se enfocará en el elemento del verso. En el fandango se acostumbra que los versos se tratan de las vidas y experiencias de los participantes, entonces durante este taller compondremos versos de nuestras experiencias recorriendo uno de los varios caminos de Sacramento.

Sentimos que el aprendizaje de la versada del fandango no sería completo sin también vivir un fandango. Por lo tanto, les pedimos a los participantes del taller que nos acompañen el 28 de abril para compartir sus versos en un contexto fandanguero. No será necesario quedarse para todo el fandango. El fandango será de 11am - 4pm; compartiremos los versos de 11am - 12pm.

Join us for a workshop in Spanish on the poetry of the fandango jarocho alongside the Del Río Trail. During this workshop, we will take some time to explore the Del Río Trail to inspire our song. We will use those experiences to collectively compose verses, learning about versada jarocha in the process. There will be opportunities to compose verses collective and individually. We will showcase these verses in a fandango at Casa de Español on Sunday, April 28. The workshop will have limited space; the fandango will not. If you can't register for the workshop, please still join us for the fandango, where we will connect you with even more opportunities.

This experience will be broken down into four parts: (1) explanation; (2) exploration; (3) composition; and (4) fandango. The workshop will include an explanation of the rhyme and meter of fandango verses, a chance to explore the Del Río Trail, and collective and individual composition exercises based on the trail. The fandango will take place the following week; there, we will invite workshop participants to share their verses.

The time to explore the trail will be short, and you will only have to walk as far as you feel comfortable walking. If you want to cover more of the trail during the programmed time, you can also bring a bike, skates, skateboard, etc. Note that the park is small and does not have a restroom available.

The fandango is a participatory musical celebration from Veracruz, México where son jarocho music is played. The fandango is a space of fellowship through music, dancing zapatado, and singing verses connected to the land, love and life. This workshop will focus on the verses of the fandango. Since in the fandango it is common that the verses reflect the experiences of the participants, in this workshop we will compose verses about our experiences traveling along one of the many Sacramento trails.

We believe you cannot truly develop an understanding of fandango verses without also experiencing a fandango. Therefore, we are asking workshop participants to also join us on April 28th to share their verses in a fandango setting. You are not required to stay for the entirety of the fandango. The fandango will be from 11am - 4pm; the verses showcase will be from 11am - 12pm.
