Taller de Jarana - Jarana Workshop

[Español] Cascabel de dos Ríos les invita al taller de introducción a la jarana para adolescentes y adultos (¡todos los niveles son bienvenidos!) impartido por la maestra Laura Rebolloso. La jarana es un instrumento parecido a una guitarra de ocho cuerdas que se toca en son jarocho. El son jarocho es una música de Veracruz, México donde las raíces africanas, indígenas y andaluzas se unieron para cantar sobre el mundo natural y la vida cotidiana. Este taller es parte de una serie de mini-talleres sobre son jarocho con Cascabel de Dos Ríos, el colectivo local de son jarocho de Sacramento, y Laura Rebolloso, maestra de son jarocho de Veracruz, México. Esta actividad está financiada por la Beca Sembrando Creatividad de la Oficina de Arte y Cultura de Sacramento.

[English] Join us for an introductory jarana workshop for teens and adults (all music levels welcomed!) taught by Laura Rebolloso. The jarana is an eight stringed guitar-like instrument played in son jarocho. Son jarocho is a music from Veracruz, México where African, Indigenous and Adalucian roots came together to sing about the natural world and daily life. This workshop is a part of a series of mini-workshops on son jarocho with Cascabel de Dos Ríos, Sacramento's local son jarocho collective, and Laura Rebolloso, master son jarocho musician from Veracruz, México. This activity is funded by the Seeding Creativity Grant from the Sacramento Office of Arts and Culture.

Instruments will be provided!

*These events will be held primarily in Spanish. Since participants learn primarily through participation, full Spanish fluency is not required, but we will offer English interpretation for community members as necessary.
