Do you enjoy discussing movies? Do you enjoy animated movies?This spring, film writer James Clarke will deliver three sessions entitled Talking ‘Toons at Cinema City Norwich. Each session will be devoted to discussion of a group of animated films.
Talking ‘Toons
Session 1: The Wonders of Anime
Sat 28 Mar, 2-5pm
£10 per session
We will be discussing three films by Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, The Boy and the Heron) and the wider world of Anime.
Talking ‘Toons
Session 2: Animated Adaptations
Sat 25 Apr, 2-5pm
£10 per session
The discussion will begin with a focus on Animal Farm, Watership Down, and When The Wind Blows before expanding further into the world of adaptation and interpretation.
Talking ‘Toons
Session 3: Animation, Myth and FolkTale
Sat 23 May, 2-5pm
£10 per session
The discussion will begin with a focus on Wolfwalkers, The Corpse Bride and Frozen before expanding further into myths and folklore in animation.
James Clarke will introduce the subject with relevant film excerpts followed by a discussion of those clips, and animated movies more widely, in keeping with the theme of the session.
Each session will run for three hours (including breaks).
About the tutor;
James’s writing has been published by 3D World, ImagineFX, Suffolk Norfolk Life, Little White Lies, Empire, and SFX. His books include: The Virgin Film Guide: Animated Films, Bodies in Heroic Motion: The Cinema of James Cameron and Bond: Photographed by Terry O’Neill. In recent years, James has worked as a script reader for the BFI and been BAFTA longlisted as a short-film producer.
