About this Event
"The workshop really made me think about what is going on for my son and how I try to deal with his behaviour. Just a couple of small changes have made a huge difference. Thank you so much."
"Life with an almost teenager can be such an emotional rollercoaster. This session has made gain some perspective and I think I will be able to manage the ups and downs more effectively now"
Would you like to find out more about how the brain is developing during the teen years and what you can do to help?
Do you struggle to cope with your young person’s changing moods?
Is your child approaching the teenage years and you would like to be prepared?
You are not alone!
Every day we speak with parents who want to understand how and why the teenage brain is changing during adolescence and, in particular, what they can do to avoid some of the challenges that they see, like difficult behaviour whilst supporting their sons and daughters during this tricky stage of their lives.
Talking Teens: from child to adult , our flagship workshop, will help you understand, prepare and connect with your child as they approach their teens. The session is for parents and carers of all children from Year 7 upwards at within the Berkhamsted Schools Group and will give you an understanding of why young people behave the way that they do and what you can do about it with practical up to date ways of improving communication, encouraging independence and reducing conflict.
A Supporting Links workshop is not a lecture. It is an interactive learning experience run by highly experienced facilitators, counsellors and parenting practitioners.
Please don't worry, you will NOT be required to take part in any role play!
Through the use of group discussion, individual/group activities and written materials you will learn about:
- The Teen Brain: Understanding why teenagers take risks and want to experiment
- Recognising the physical and emotional changes that are happening for our children during the teenage years and why their behaviour changes.
- The link between behaviour and communicating difficult feelings
- Why arguments escalate and how to stop this happening
- How to negotiate during a conflict situation
Parents will leave with the skills to apply this understanding within their families.
Previous attendees have said:
“Excellent teen brain explanation. Very well delivered and engaging session”
“Good tips on how to cope and manage the teenage years – well done! I feel much more prepared now”
