Fabiola Toussaint was expecting to have a better life in the U.S. However, upon leaving her hometown in Haiti, her mother is detained by U.S. immigration. She is left alone to deal with her American cousins, attending a new school, and adapting to an unfamiliar social environment.
A finalist for the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature in 2017, "American Street" explores the American dream and the price one may have to pay to achieve it.
