Talk: From 1860’s to 2020’s: recreating a historical gown
The event will be held in English
In late 2023, Susanne Brouwer, recent tailor graduate from the Meesteropleiding Coupeur in Amsterdam, visited the Hallwyl museum collection to study an 1865 custom made ball gown. As her graduation project, Susanne created a replica of Wilhelmina’s dress, combining research and craftsmanship in the process. What lessons can we learn from tailoring techniques and materials of the past? Join us in this talk with Susanne and our textile conservator Maria Franzon.
