Talk of the Town: The Mansion District Effect walking tour with Uytae Lee
About this Event
Housing shapes so many of the decisions young people make in Vancouver, from where we live, who we live with, how much we spend, how far we commute, to whether we can imagine staying in the city long-term.
Join us for “The Mansion District Effect” walking tour, led by Uytae Lee (), through the Riley Park neighbourhood to uncover the zoning policies, planning decisions, and housing rules that shape the places we live. We begin at the Main and 21st Plaza and as we move from block to block, we’ll look at what the neighbourhood’s development patterns reveal about who gets to live here, what housing is allowed, and why building affordable housing that is attainable for young people can be so difficult.
This isn’t just a tour of one neighbourhood. Following the tour, we’ll discuss the bigger forces behind the city’s housing challenges and collectively brainstorm what we need to see in our city to improve affordable, accessible housing for all.
Renters, homeowners, people living with family or roommates, newcomers to Vancouver, and anyone considering where and how they want to build a life in the city are welcome to participate.
