Join us in the Harbottle Suite of the Black Gate where we will magic ourselves into our Carnival at the Castle season with Icy Sedgwick as she explores the Magical Legends of the North East!About
The North East, and indeed Newcastle itself, is stuffed to the brim with legends of dragons, wizards, vampires (yes, really), saints, witches, and Border Reivers. Even Queen Mab herself and King Arthur make an appearance in a story or two. Given the long and tumultuous history of the region, the presence of such legends is no surprise - our heroes walk tall, whether they're armed with a musket or a simple shovel. This talk will take you on a whistle-stop tour through a handful of our most rousing stories, featuring tales of derring do, shapeshifting, prophetic visions, and mighty magical deeds!
Icy Sedgwick is the host of the Fabulous Folklore podcast, investigating European folklore with a special emphasis on Newcastle and Northumberland. In case she tires of research, former ghost hunter Icy also writes Gothic horror fiction.
