Speakers:
Glen Fishbook Glen was born and raised in Tsawwassen, B.C. He joined the RCMP in 1997 and was first posted to Iqaluit, Nunavut where he spent the first 7.5 years of his service before returning to B.C. in 2005. He has 29 years of service with the RCMP and is currently on medical leave for treatment of depression and PTSD.
Peg Peters Peg is the Co-Founder and CEO of Gathering Groups, a Fraser Valley–based psychedelic retreat and training centre pioneering group-based models for trauma recovery and resilience. His work is grounded in a simple but powerful insight: people heal best in small, trusted groups where they can be fully seen, known, and accepted.
Over the past three decades, Peg has explored how human beings find hope in the midst of suffering—as an ordained minister listening to people’s deepest pain, as a philosophy professor guiding students through questions of meaning and purpose, and as the founder of a water charity in Ethiopia that mobilized community-led solutions to complex challenges.
Today, through Gathering Groups, he leads a 12-week preparation and integration process anchored by a two-night plant-medicine retreat. The model integrates neuroscience, social identity theory, and polyvagal-informed approaches with Indigenous and land-based wisdom to strengthen connection, restore trust, and support post-traumatic growth—particularly among those working in high-stress professions such as first responders.
Jagpaul Kaur Jagpaul is a psychedelic medicine researcher, clinical pharmacist and doctoral candidate and serves on the MAPS Canada Board of Directors. She specializes in psychiatry, chronic pain, women’s health and emerging therapies. With over 15 years of clinical experience, Jag works at the intersection of neuroscience, pharmacology, and patient-centred care models that support veterans navigating PTSD, depression, chronic pain, and substance use challenges. She has extensive experience helping veterans navigate the often complex and lengthy processes required to access care and coverage through veterans’ health systems, advocating for treatments that can meaningfully improve quality of life. As a former first responder, Jag brings a unique perspective of both professional and lived insight into trauma and occupational stress.
Her work bridges conventional pharmaceutical care with emerging psychedelic-assisted approaches. She focuses on harm reduction and evidence-informed approaches for individuals who have not found relief with standard treatments. Jag is particularly interested in how psychedelic therapies may offer new possibilities for healing for veterans living with trauma-related mental health challenges.
The evening includes a free screening of In Waves and War — a powerful documentary featuring veterans and families navigating trauma, healing, and hope through psychedelic-assisted therapy.
About the film:
Highly decorated Navy SEAL Marcus Capone returns from Afghanistan and attempts to readjust to civilian life. But years of unprecedented warfare have left Marcus with treatment-defiant PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and severe depression beyond what current government treatment options can effectively address. Fearing for Marcus' life, his wife, Amber, finds hope in a groundbreaking therapy combining two powerful psychedelics unapproved for use in the U.S., but with seemingly limitless applications. Inspired by Marcus' remarkable recovery but still confronted with the alarming rate of veteran suicide in their community, Marcus and Amber embark on a new mission: providing access to this lifeline. Alongside intimate interviews, captivating animation, and first-of-its-kind research at Stanford's Brain Stimulation Lab, In Waves and War, from Jon Shenk and Bonni Cohen (Athlete A, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power), is the emotional, inspiring odyssey of three American heroes as they overcome the after effects of war and rediscover their humanity.
Tickets prices:
Ticket options include donation-based pricing for students, seniors, and low-income attendees, and free admission for veterans and first responders.
