Come make something small, meaningful, and generous—a wish for a perfect stranger
About this Event

This workshop is free, however, space is limited. Please sign up in advance to reserve your place.

Join Queens-based artist Dani Song for a hands-on community art workshop exploring the traditions of talismans—small, handmade objects that carry wishes for protection, blessing, comfort, or good fortune.

Across cultures, people have created charms, amulets, worry dolls, and keepsakes as tangible expressions of care. Talisman for the Perfect Stranger reimagines the talisman not as an object tied to a particular belief, identity, or status, but as a simple gesture of goodwill—something made for someone we may never meet.

Together, we will learn about talisman traditions from around the world, then create our own talismans for our neighbors and community using various crafting materials. Each participant will have the opportunity to give their talisman a personal wish or intention, transforming a private gesture into an offering of collective care.

After the Workshop, completed talismans will be gathered and presented in a two-week public exhibition at King Manor Museum, culminating in a silent auction.

You are welcome to bid on your own creation or on a talisman made by someone else.

All auction proceeds will be donated to a local nonprofit supporting migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees living in New York City.
