About this Event

Are you aged 7-11 and fascinated by nature? Would you like to try creative writing? Join us for a chalk stream walk followed by a poetry workshop!

We'll start by taking a walk along the Upper Anton, using our senses to explore this special habitat. Then, we'll head indoors to turn what we've learned into a poem.

You can also enter your finished poem into our poetry competition. You could win £75 of National Book Tokens, and have your poem published in a special booklet.

The walk and workshop will be led by Amanda Kane-Smith of Merry-Go-Round Storytelling. Amanda is a professional storyteller and author with a passion for the natural world.

This event is part of the Tales from the Riverbank Literature Festival - a celebration of how rivers inspire creativity. This festival is a collaboration between the Watercress and Winterbournes Landscape Partnership Scheme and Hampshire Library Service.

Age range: Suitable for ages 7-11. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult (this adult does not need a ticket).

What to bring: Appropriate clothes for our walk (wellies and a coat if rainy, suncream and a hat if sunny) and a snack for break time.

Accessibility: This event involves around half a mile of walking. The route and venue are wheelchair accessible, and the venue has an accessible toilet.

Parking: The closest medium and long-stay car parks are George Yard and the Chantry Centre; both are pay-and-display. Please consider coming by public transport, or on foot, where possible.
