This first episode of Tales & Traditions features the musical legacy of the Crescent City - New Orleans, Louisiana.
This show is hosted by guitarist Joshua Starkman, of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. In addition to being an accomplished jazz guitarist, Josh is also known for his viral videos - jamming with musicians all over the City and telling folks to 'HAVE A GREAT DAY!' Starkman will be sitting down and sitting in with the musicians to bring their stories and songs to light for this special night.
Joining Josh will be his fellow Preservation Hall Jazz Band members - trombonist, Ronell Johnson & trumpeter, Branden Lewis! They will share songs and stories from the New Orleans Jazz tradition, which is deeply rooted in both of their families for generations.
We are very happy to welcome back our friend in funk and a student turned teacher of the school of New Orleans rhythm & blues - JOHN 'PAPA' GROS! John will share his knowledge of piano tradition and stories of the people who brought the New Orleans sound to the universe. Gros has graduated with a PhD in FUNK from teachers like piano legends Dr. John, Professor Longhair, The Honorable Art Neville, St. James Booker, and many more!
Join us for this special evening celebrating the music and culture of New Orleans!!
