Artists of the Truckee Artist Lofts welcome residents and members of the public to two Art Salons for Earth Day at 9848.Gallery—April 5th and 27th.On April 27, from 4:00–6:00 PM, visit TAL's gallery for a creative writing session with Joanne Mallari, a published poet and assistant director of the Core Writing Program at the University of Nevada Reno—joined by musical guest Alice Osborn of Carnelian Bay! Guests create new compositions, then share their own Earth-Day spoken word art project if they choose. In the tradition of art salons, TAL artists stage an interactive art experience, where observers become participants.
We TAL artists are so excited to share our space with this second installment of the Fortnight Salon Collective:
Joanne Mallari is the author of _Daughter Tongue_, a chapbook that explores hybrids of identity from the perspective of a second-generation Filipino-American. Her poetry has been published in journals including _Crab Orchard Review_, _Palimpsest_, and _Haight Ashbury Literary Journal_, which nominated her work for a Pushcart Prize. Born in southern California and raised in Las Vegas, she has called Reno home since 2008.
Alice Osborn recently relocated from Raleigh, North Carolina, to Lake Tahoe, California. She is a singer-songwriter, poet, and educator, who grew up in the Washington, D.C. area where in elementary school her fourth grade music teacher introduced her to the magic of folk, classical, country, spirituals, pop, and rock n’ roll, and soon changed her life by incorporating history and stories, the makings of folk tradition.
The event is FREE and sponsored in part by The Fortnight Salon Collective, led by TAL artist Patricia/Patsy Eagan.
