About this Event

Claire Barber is a textile-based artist whose practice is shaped by site-responsive and materially driven enquiry informed by industrial histories, material culture, and embodied making. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1994 and was awarded a PhD by Publication in 2016 (Cloth in Action), recognising textiles as both aesthetic and social practice.

While grounded in textile traditions, her work extends into sound collaboration, photography, and participatory practice, treating textiles as sensory and spatial systems rather than purely visual objects.

This event is part of our Taking Up Creative Space Open Studio Weekend
Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May

Join us for a full weekend of events at RuptureXIBIT.

We are welcoming author Hettie Judah who will be introducing her book, ‘How to Enter the Art World... AFTER a late start, a first career, illness, raising children, a crisis of confidence, leaving it in disgust…’ Hettie will be hosting a Q & A session followed by tea and book signing, where you'll have a chance to buy a copy.

As well as the book launch we will have a whole open studio with artists Kate Howe & Sally Minns and a writing workshop with Anna Johnson. In the evening we’ll celebrate with our art and jazz salon featuring music from Mood Indigo.
