taking shape: a creative workshop series based in expressive arts
About this Event
With autumn arriving, September is a good time to start
Come join us on four Tuesday evenings. Different materials in your hands each week. No small talk needed with a circle of the same people, art supplies on the table and something new to create.
We'll slow down, go offline, and let our hands lead as we play with creative ideas over four weeks.
About
Taking shape is a four-part creative workshop series using expressive arts (drawing, clay, reflective writing and more) to explore the connections that hold us in place, the ones that shape us, and the spaces between. No experience needed, just curiosity and a desire to connect and create.

the four weeks
Week 01 | rooting down
22 September, drawing
Using simple visual arts and drawing prompts, we'll explore what grounds us, what moves us, and what we carry with us
Week 02 | taking form
29 September, shaping clay
Working with clay in our hands, we'll shape what is here and what is still arriving, at its own pace, in its own way
Week 03 | listening in
6 October, reflective writing
With reflective writing, we'll make space for what wants to be heard, the quiet and loud parts, and follow the lines connecting us
Week 04 | coming together
13 October, integration
In our final session, we'll bring together what we've made so far, and create a response to it, with space and time to reflect and share
the shape of an evening
Each evening follows the same gentle shape. We arrive together, settling in with some easy movement and breath, then something light and playful to warm up, before we move into the main making of the evening. Each week has a different material at its centre, with different creative practices woven through.
There are moments to share with the group if you'd like to. Sharing is always an invitation, never a requirement, but space is given for you to express yourself. We end each evening together, softly closing what was opened with some quiet reflection.
This is a journey across four weeks, not a single evening. We create together, week by week, with faces and spaces becoming more familiar as we connect a little more with ourselves and each other.

where this came from
Hi, I'm Zoé, an expressive arts facilitator and the founder of the sozo space. I trained at the Expressive Arts Institute Berlin, and I've shared this practice with a wide variety of groups at spaces like 42 Berlin, Backhaus Projects, and The Craft Hub.
I've been in Berlin a long time, and I'm still working out what makes a place begin to feel like home. It's something I've seen many people wrestling with in this fast city, where connection can be surprisingly hard to find. This series grew from that. Wherever you are right now, rooted or searching or somewhere in between, you're welcome exactly as you are.
There's more of the sozo space over on Instagram, and more about this series on my website, if you'd like to look before you book.
taking shape, week by week, together
Four Tuesdays. One small group. A handful of materials. Time to be quiet and go offline, making something with your own hands. Come as you are; you're welcome here. We'll start from there.
