About this Event
In this workshop, we will develop a deeper understanding of how our own cultural frames of reference inform our beliefs about student behavioral and mental health concerns. We will explore how our biases and narratives around student learning and behavior can affect student outcomes.
More specifically, we will deepen our understanding of how mental health challenges and anxiety intersect with racial identity, so that we can reframe our interpretations of student behavior to include a more culturally responsive approach to teaching and learning. Our hope is that this learning opportunity will positively impact your interactions with students and positively reshape school culture. Lastly, we will provide tangible strategies and more equitable approaches to support interventions for students from diverse backgrounds.
Participants will:
- Reflect on how their own biases and narratives around student behavior inform learning outcomes.
- Understand how anxiety and other mental health challenges intersect with racial identity and child development
- Explore with tools that help them consider the language their schools use when talking about students
Teachers, school counselors, learning specialists, deans of students, and anyone who works directly with supporting student learning and behavior in K-12 schools.
