About this Event

BE APART OF HISTORY
Join the Maryland Poetry Society Network for a powerful night of live expression at Morgan State University. This open mic, powered by Say Less About Poetry, marks the first all-inclusive university poetry event bringing together voices from Morgan State, Towson, Coppin State, University of Maryland, and Howard University in one shared creative space.

Poets, spoken-word artists, singers, rappers, and creatives are invited to take the stage and share their voice in a vibrant theater atmosphere. Whether you’re performing or coming to experience the energy, this event is designed to unite campuses and community through storytelling, artistry, and authentic expression. Step into the spotlight, support local talent, and be part of a growing movement in Maryland’s poetry scene.

Featuring a Powerful Night with Black Chakra & A’niya Taylor

Experience an unforgettable evening of artistry, activism, and lyrical excellence.

Black Chakra is a dynamic spoken word and hip-hop artist whose commanding presence has electrified stages across America. A National Poetry Slam Champion, Texas Grand Slam Champion, and Southern Fried Slam Champion—among many other accolades—Black Chakra embodies the spirit of Baltimore through aggressive performance, masterful writing, and unapologetic authenticity. Beyond the stage, he takes great pride in serving as a youth poetry teacher with Dewmore Baltimore, mentoring young creatives and helping them cultivate their voices for national platforms.

Joining him is A’niya Taylor, an award-winning spoken word artist, community advocate, and author of “The Space Between: The Hurting The Healing The Loving.” A former (2022–23) Youth Poet Laureate of Baltimore and Youth Poet Ambassador (2020, 2021), A’niya has led as captain of the Baltimore City Youth Poetry Team in 2021 and 2023. She won 1st place in the individual poetry slam at the 2021 Brave New Voices festival and was nominated for Marylander of the Year in 2020 for her artivism. Through her poetry, A’niya explores the intersection of art, healing, identity, and social change—using her voice as a tool for transformation and empowerment.

This is more than a performance—it’s a celebration of culture, community, and the power of words.
