Take Me Out To The Ball Game (Silent Movie Speedy accompanied on organ by Doug Rust) is coming to the Saenger Theater on June 22nd for a FREE EVENT!Speedy is a 1928 American silent comedy film starring comedian Harold Lloyd in the eponymous leading role. It was Lloyd’s last silent film to be released theatrically, and the second to last produced by Lloyd’s own production company. Harold “Speedy” Swift, a fan of Babe Ruth and the New York Yankees, saves from extinction the city’s last horse-drawn trolley, operated by his girlfriend’s grandfather.
A church organist from his youth, Rust first encountered silent film accompaniment during his graduate studies in music at Yale University in the 1990s, where he heard organist Paul Fleckenstein accompany Phantom of the Opera (1925) before a sold-out audience at Woolsey Hall. That started a dream that took many years to develop before Rust accompanied his first silent film at USM in October 2014. Since then, he has presented a growing catalog of silent movies to the delight of audiences in Mississippi.
