About this Event
This field trip is for Heartland Charter School students and their families.
*This field trip is open to students 7 years of age and older.*Earth Day is coming up–join us on this free, educational experience! Have you ever wondered where your trash goes once it gets picked up? Come find out at the Tajiguas Landfill! This landfill serves the South Coast as well as the Santa Ynez and New Cuyama Valleys, and can process up to 1,500 tons of trash per day. Some things that are covered during this experience include how the trash is handled at the Landfill, how falcons (yes, falcons!) are used to protect the quality of the ocean water of the beach directly across from the Landfill, and how trash is currently used to provide electricity for homes in the southern portion of Santa Barbara County.
*Wear closed toed shoes and bring sun protection for the outdoor landfill portion of the trip.

We encourage families to turn in a sample that is linked to the field trip that you attended during your next learning period. It helps to ensure that we can continue to provide these trips and their educational value.
Heartland field trips are designed for families to attend together. Students need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. If your student will be attending with another family, please indicate this when you register your student and let the field trip host know once you complete your registration. Any student that is registered without a chaperone will have their reservation canceled unless the family reaches out to the field trip lead and lets them know which registered chaperone will be responsible for their student.
It is important to use the correct student name when reserving tickets. Please do not purchase student tickets under the chaperone's name.
**To ensure the health and safety of all attendees, please do not attend a field trip if you, your student(s), or anyone in your household is ill or showing possible signs of illness.**
*Masks will be required for all indoor field trips per California state guidelines.
Please read our refund policy!
Refunds will not be given. As a courtesy, if you are sick or unable to attend a field trip, please contact the teacher that planned the event to let them know so they do not wait at the venue for you. You may not send a different family in your place as we will not have a waiver for them.
Can I pay using my funds? This field trip is free.
Does this trip have any height, weight, and/or age restrictions? Ages 7 and older only. Younger students will not be allowed to attend. If you purchase tickets for younger students they will be canceled. Only one chaperone ticket per family is allowed due to limited space.
What are the check-in procedures? HST Arlista Lee will be on-site ready to check you starting at 12:30pm. Find a parking spot and meet her by 12:45pm.
Is there on-site parking available? Free parking on site. You will be driving about a half mile up a paved road following signs to the "ReSource Center Visitors - MRF Parking Lot". Your tour guide will meet you outside the ReSouce Center MRF entrance in the parking lot at your tour start time.
