“Tactile and Telling,” Debra Gindhart Dragoo at Full Circle Nine Gallery for January First Friday

The Full Circle Nine Gallery (FC9) will Debra Gindhart Dragoo with “Tactile and Telling: Found Fiber, Found Objects”” as part of the January First Friday art tour, Friday, January 2nd, 6-9pm. Admission and parking are free. A staple of the Muncie art scene, Dragoo was a founding member of FC9 and returns now as a guest featured artist, bringing her assemblage art of found objects and found fibers, especially yarn and the concept of “yarn bombing.”
“My mother had six children and she made things out of things. This process really stuck with me,” Dragoo said. “A process that is near and dear to my artist’s heart. Saving the landfills one piece of costume jewelry and discarded art at a time. By using repurposing techniques, I feel connected to our ecosystem and I am grateful to do my part to give new life to once-trashed objects.”
About Debra Gindhart Dragoo
Debra Gindhart Dragoo has been creating art and repurposing art since the age of seven. With her great-grandfather cofounding the Indiana School of Art in downtown Indianapolis, Dragoo says art is in her DNA. For nearly a quarter of a century, Dragoo has been curating First Thursdays in Muncie, Indiana. During her shows as part of the evening, she showcases her sense of humor or observant commentary using repurposed materials such as her Green Glam jewelry, or in her paintings, both fully original or in collaboration with unknown artists as she had rescued that art from its destined landfill. A visual arts educator and community arts advocate, Dragoo has been exploring the concept of “yarn bombing.”
“Yarn Bombing isn’t ‘gentriffiti,’ fiber artsts can be beautifully showcased in an art installation, perhaps through large-scale crochet or knit installations, intricate textile sculptures, or immersive weaving environments,” Dragoo said. “The interplay of color, texture, and form in fiber arts lends itself well to creating captivating installations that engage viewers on both visual and tactile levels.”
About the Full Circle Nine Gallery
The Full Circle Nine Gallery operates as an artist cooperative gallery, with each of the member artists and the board dividing gallery duties and artists roles. The artists work together to help each other to help each other advance in skill and practice as well as to bring success to the gallery. With over two dozen artists occupying a large, three-room space of the more factory reminiscent portion of the Factory Arts District North building, Full Circle Nine Gallery offers a wide variety of art forms, media, and approaches.
The gallery has regular hours: 12-4pm on Saturday and Sundays.
