Josh Tuininga's award-winning graphic novel, 'We Are Not Strangers' is based on the true story of a Jewish immigrant who helped his Japanese-American neighbors when they were forced out of the neighborhood and incarcerated during WWII. Join us for this visually rich presentation as author Josh Tuininga shares the intricacies of his research and creative process, and unravels the profound lessons embedded in this tale of allyship and unity amidst the turbulence of wartime.
‘We Are Not Strangers’ was the winner of the 2024 National EGLA for Best YA graphic novel and was a Finalist for the 2024 Washington State Book Award.
Tacoma Reads is a literary program series presented in partnership by the City of Tacoma’s Mayor’s Office and Tacoma Public Library.
