What Are Family Constellations?

Imagine life as a big jigsaw puzzle. Each family is a puzzle, and every person is a piece. Sometimes, a piece may feel like it doesn’t fit, this could show up as struggles with relationships, emotions, or health. Systemic and Family Constellations is a gentle, experiential way to see hidden patterns—unspoken loyalties, unresolved grief, or inherited burdens and restore balance within family systems.

Developed by Bert Hellinger (1925–2019), this method explores how families, like rivers, have a natural flow. When that flow is disturbed, difficulties arise. By restoring order and belonging, peace and healing often return—not only for the individual, but for the whole family system.

Workshop Flow (3 hours):

Introduction (15–20 mins): What are Systemic & Family Constellations? Key principles of Belonging, Order, and Balance.

Experiential Warm-up (15 mins):Gentle group exercises for grounding and openness.

Constellation Demonstrations (2 hours): One or two participants bring personal issues to explore within a “living map” of their family or system.

Group Reflection (30 mins): Shared insights and simple takeaway practices for continued integration.

About the Facilitator:Chayanika Bhiwaniwalais the founder of Self & Beyond, a holistic healing center in Kolkata, India. She serves as President of the WICCI West Bengal Mental Health Council and Chairperson of the International Systemic Constellations Association (ISCA) India Chapter. She has spent over a decade guiding clients and groups through trauma healing and ancestral work, blending psychotherapy, mindfulness, and systemic therapy.

This will be one of her first workshops in the U.S., and we’re so thrilled to host her visit to Pittsburgh.
