Syncopation, Coordination & Independence: A Drumkit Workshop - Saturday, February 13th, 2027 at The Carnegie Library, Dun Laoghaire.
Jazz drummer & composer Kevin Brady will present a practical drum workshop as part of the Newpark Academy of Music Festival Workshop Series.
In this session, he will explore the relationship between syncopation, coordination, and independence on the drumkit, drawing on ideas from jazz, improvisation, and rhythmic studies. Students will look at how to develop greater control and awareness of rhythm can opening up new possibilities for creativity and musical expression.
Through a series of practical exercises, Kevin will
deomnstrate four-way coordination looking at ways to develop independence between the limbs while maintaining a strong sense of time, groove, and swing.
The workshop is aimed at drummers who want to deepen their understanding of rhythm, strengthen their coordination, and expand their musical vocabulary, whether through developing their jazz playing, exploring new rhythmic ideas, or finding greater freedom and expression around the kit.
