About this Event
SWOOP - Community Willow Weaving Workshop
Join us at the Mill-Courtland Community Centre's temporary location in the Rockway Mennonite Church for a hands-on willow weaving workshop! Help weave little birds from locally collected willow that will be used to create a public artwork for the City of Kitchener’s collection and hung from the ceiling of the newly renovated Mill Courtland Community Centre. This in-person event is perfect for beginners and experienced weavers alike. All materials will be provided.
Please note that participants should be over the age of 12. We will be using sharp tools and weaving willow requires a fair amount of hand strength to control the twisting and shaping of the material. If you experience joint pain or weakness in your hands this workshop may not be suitable for you.
Enter the church from the back beside the parking lot. Parking is available behind the church, including 2 accessible spaces. Rockway is a short walk from the Borden LRT station, and the King / Ottawa stop on bus route 7 or Weber / Onward stop on bus route 8. Note that transit routes occasionally change. Please check the latest from the GRT website.
Everyone who makes a swallow will be recognized in the final artwork. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to contribute to a permanent collaborative artwork in your community. See you there!
