Vintage Swing Movement Joplin, Hosts of First Friday swing dancing since 2019, now proudly brings you – SWINGIN’ SEPTEMBER!
Couldn’t wait a whole month to get out and dance again? Jonesing for jazz at local venues every weekend rather than once a month? Us, too!
Swingin’ September features live jazz from Joplin’s best home-grown jazz musicians– Jomo Jazz and Jump Company – playing every weekend in September at some of Joplin’s most established local venues.
Feel like dancin’? Every weekend will feature our simple, beginner-friendly East Coast Swing lesson to get you on your feet and moving in less than an hour, whether this is your first time or your hundredth time, followed by an hour of live music from one of our local bands.
No partner? No problem! We rotate during our lesson so that everyone has the opportunity to dance.
Whether coming to one weekend or to all of them, we hope to see you out on the dance floor this Swingin’ September!

FAQs
– Do I need a partner?
Nope! We rotate during the dance lesson, so you’ll have a room full of dance partners!
Swing dancing is a social event, and we encourage our community to get to know one another and dance together!
– Is dance experience required?
Nope! We teach the dance lesson from scratch. If you can walk, you can dance! In fact, our favorite people to teach are brand new beginners, because you’ll amaze yourself with how great of a dancer you really are!
– What if I really don’t want to dance?
We promise not to take it personally. We believe in creating an environment where it’s welcoming for all, even if you’re not dancing. So feel free to sit back, grab a drink, and enjoy the live jazz music!
– Is this event kid friendly?
Yes! Whether they are attending for the music, or the dance lesson, we would love to have your kids join us! We’ve taught kids before in the lesson, and they pick it up pretty well!
