Come and join us for a swinging evening of social dance in Esch! We open doors at 19h, in the Lino Jaune room of KuFa, then start with a “taster” class (Lindy Hop) from 19.30 to 20.30, which will be followed by social dance. The event is completely free and no ticket is required. Beginners welcome! Come as you are!
This event is co-organized by Swing Dance Luxembourg, Laura Steil a.k.a. “Dancing Esch” and the KuFa, which gracefully hosts us.

Did you know that the industrial city of Esch was once a hotspot for partner dancing? In the 1950s, “dancings” were plentifull, especially in the neighborhood of the “Grenz” which faced the French border. Dancefloors were packed with people grooving to live music. Esch had its own jazz orchestra (jazz club Esch) which played from the interwar period to the sixties. People came all the way from Luxembourg city, but also from neighboring France to experience Esch’s vibe.
“Dancing Esch” is a research project led by university of Luxembourg researcher Laura Steil. Her goal is to reconstruct Esch’s dance history, focusing on the decades following WWII. Because the embodied and sensual dimensions of history often elude us, not the least because they are difficult to archive, this project uses reenactment as a pathway. What would we discover by bringing the vibe in dancings back to life? What could we reveal by recreating the dances, replaying the music, wearing the clothes, smelling the smells? Until September 2023, Laura Steil will partner up with collectives and institutions with the same passion for reclaiming the past through embodied, artistic experiences.
