On March 5, 2023, Ponte Vedra Concert Hall welcomes local residents to “Swing with the Big Bands,” presented by the Friends of Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 10 at 12:00pm online at Ticketmaster.com and at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre Box Office. Ponte Vedra Concert Hall Box Office is only open on event days.
The fun musical event will kick off the Spring season with The TBA Big Band’s rendition of the melodic rhythms of the big band greats, including Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington. Prior to the first set, aspiring and experienced dancers alike will enjoy a free dance lesson, led by Two-Time World Dance Champion and acclaimed instructor Heiko Leyhausen, owner of the Arthur Murray Ponte Vedra Dance Center.
After their introduction to the Foxtrot, East Coast Swing and more, dancers can show off their new-found swing skills or just relax and enjoy an evening of big band tunes by the 17-member The TBA Big Band. Members include retired Navy, Army and Airforce drummers and brass section members, plus the Director of Jazz Studies at University of North Florida. The TBA Big Band is the most popular big band in North Florida.
Organized by the Friends of Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, the event will also offer refreshments, including a 1940’s signature cocktail served in the most sophisticated nightclubs - the French 75, a bubbly medley of sparkling wine, gin, lime juice and simple syrup. The French 75, as well as other refreshments are available for purchase.
Doors open at 4:30pm, with the dance lesson starting at 5:00pm and TBA Big Band’s first set kicking off at 6:00pm.
