Swim1922 Water Safety Clinic with the Fort Worth Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho
About this Event
What is this workshop? This workshop focuses on the fundamentals of being COMFORTABLE in the water. We start by talking, then move on to walking in the water, followed by learning to control our motion in the water. Next, we protect our eyes, ears, and noses while in the water, and then gradually develop our floating skills. The goal is COMFORT, and we move at YOUR PACE.
Most adults who come to this class come with limited experience with the water and/or misconceptions about the water and/or a history of one or more traumatic experiences with water. We start by talking about the water and how it works, and how it often behaves differently than we expect. Then, for those who would like to join us, we move into the water and walk and feel the differences between water movement and land movement, and explore the ways our movements affect the water and our bodies in the water. Note: It's not uncommon for a student to be too scared to get in the pool. That's fine. You can sit and listen and watch, and one of our coaches will check in on you to answer questions or discuss concerns.
