Learn to make traditional sweetgrass baskets with master basketmaker Vera Manigault on Saturday, February 11, 2023, 11 am to 1 pm ET at the Gullah Museum in Georgetown, SC. Vera's family has been creating these vessels of memory for eight generations. Gullah Geechees have made sweetgrass baskets for centuries in a style that is identical to the coil baskets of West Africa.

The class fee includes all materials needed to make a basket.

During the class, participants will:

• Learn the difference between basket sewing and weaving.
• Make their own basket as Vera guides you.
• Learn about Gullah Geechee basketmaking traditions.
