The Swan Guildford Historical Society will be participating in the 2024 Australian Hertiage Festival with a Swan Valley, Bus Tour, and a Walking Tour of Guildford.

CLUES IN THE LANDSCAPE: Guildford’s Changing Landscape From First Nations People To The Coming Of The Railway.
Join Dr Shane Burke, Vice President of the Swan Guildford Historical Society and Senior Lecture in Archaeology and History at the University of Notre Dame Australia, on a Walking Tour of Guildford.
Visit sites with physical reminders of First Nation people’s use of the area, the early British settlement, the convict period, and the coming of the railway.

Departure: 10am sharp
Colonial Gaol Carpark, 22 Meadow Street Guildford.
Duration: 90 minutes (approx.) with one rest stop.
Wheelchair friendly.
Historical Maps provided.
Hats and Water are advised.
Cost: Adults $10.

BUS TOURS OF THE SWAN VALLEY
Sunday 12th May.
Visit historic sites in the Swan Valley.
Archaeologist Dr. Shane Burke takes us on a tour of the Swan Valley, where you will visit three significant sites.
ALL SAINTS CHURCH in Henley Brook, he describes the landscape, and points out the left bank of the Swan River, where James Stirling and others camped in March 1827.
YAGAN’S MEMORIAL, a hugely significant site for reconciliation between white and black Australians. The memorial also highlights the conflict that existed in the Swan district between the land’s owners and white occupiers in the first years of settlement.
CRUSE’S MILL, a wonderful example of an early colonial period landscape. The land was owned by George Leake and leased to Henry Bull. From 1837, the site of a grain mill operated by one of Henry Bull’s servants, William Cruse.

Please Note: The terrain approaching Cruse's Mill is uneven. Sensible walking shoes, a hat and water are advised.
