SW Community Day

The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Omicron Eta Lambda Chapter will host its Annual Southwest Community Day Saturday, August 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lansburgh Park, 1098 Delaware Avenue SW. The Community Day event is free and open to the public and will include health screenings, educational resources, free haircuts, music by DJ EZ Street, and free school supplies for D.C. residents. Alongside its 10 community partners, the organization aims to provide a positive, resource-driven space for D.C. residents.

Chartered in Southwest D.C. in 1985, the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Omicron Eta Lambda Chapter began Community Day in Southwest in 2013. The event’s goal is to register people to vote, pass out school supplies and materials to kids, provide free health screenings, and highlight the benefits of high school and college education.

Community Day, along with the chapter’s annual toy drive, turkey giveaway, adopt-a-block initiative, and mentoring program serve as part of a long-term chapter commitment to foster overall wellness and growth in Southwest.

2022 Southwest Community Day partners include The Ayana J. McAllister Foundation, Bennett Career Institute, The Federal City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., D.C. Board of Elections, Costco, the D.C. Department of Health, the D.C. Housing Authority Office of Resident Services, D.C. Transit Police, Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative, Friends of Southwest DC, Giant Food Stores, Hip Hop Caucus, Howard University School of Dentistry, March of Dimes, Maryland Proton Treatment Center, the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, PartyHQ, and the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Omicron Phi Zeta Chapter.
