Since her critically acclaimed 1985 debut, she has performed sold-out shows worldwide and become known for her distinctive, “clear, unwavering voice” (Rolling Stone).
Her performances convey deep emotion and understated power. The Washington Post praised her voice as “a cool, dry sandpaper-brushed near-whisper,” while NPR notes she “has been making vital, inventive music” throughout her decades-long career.
