Sustainable Fashion Show & Gala to benefit ricRACK hosted by Pell

ricRACK, a beacon of creativity and sustainability in the heart of New Orleans, is proud to announce its biggest fundraiser of the year, scheduled for Thursday, December 19th, from 6:00PM to 8:30 PM at Press Street Station, 600 Homer Plessy Way. This eagerly anticipated event promises a night of inspiration, creativity, and uplifting local youth . Proceeds from the Fashion Show & Gala directly support ricRACK’s outreach programs, which are dedicated to keeping textiles out of landfills and promoting sustainable sewing practices throughout New Orleans.

The Fashion Show & Gala is presented by the  sustainably minded art house, JAMNOLA.Guest star Pell will host the evening, with a DJ set and a performance. The afterparty will feature entertainment by a number of local artists.

Central to the event is the culmination of ricRACK’s Teen Fashion Course: From Concept to Creation - a program made possible with support from New Orleans Youth Alliance (NOYA). Local teens ages 14-18 were invited to experience the full design process: creating a concept, and sewing it into reality. Local Designers/Instructors Iz Eagles and Lorenza De La Puente taught the principles of re-use and waste reduction in addition to introducing the participants to new sewing and repurposing skills.

Teen Designers were asked to think about the ways fashion and art can be sustainable and regenerative while conceptualizing their designs.and they learned how to incorporate upcycling & creative reuse techniques into their sewing skillset giving new life to discarded materials in the process. 100% of materials were sourced from ricRACK’s creative reuse thrift shop!

These innovative designs will be presented alongside designs from ricRACK instructors and other local designers.
