About this Event

This workshop aims to provide participants with an insight on what nature-based solutions are and why their application is crucial for present and future coastal management. It will give an overview of the main issues affecting coastal areas, with a focus on the challenges faced by the Liverpool community, and on the types of nature-based solutions available for different coastal settings, with an outline of the benefits of sustainable (or soft) engineering as opposed to traditional (hard) engineering.

Several talks will be given by academics from the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Mores University about their research in the field of sustainable coastal management. They will share the lessons learned from Liverpool and the North-West and explain how their work contributes to the global effort toward sustainable and effective coastal management.

The workshop will conclude with a brief focus group where participants are invited to share their knowledge and opinions about the application of Nature-Based Solutions in coastal management. The event is open to everyone and no previous knowledge of the topic is required.
