Hosted by SAIT In collaboration with SAIT's Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS), and the Green Building Technology Access Centre (GBTAC), Sustainability in Construction brings together industry professionals and students for an afternoon of conversation, connection, and hands-on exploration of green building technology.
Hear from three featured industry speakers as they share their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities shaping sustainable construction:
🌱 Stephanie Fargas — LEED Green Associate
Associate Principal | Manager - Specifications at Arcadis
Topic: Material Transparency - Choose materials with transparent information on their composition, environmental impacts, and sourcing. By leveraging exciting opportunities in material innovation and embracing transparency initiatives, industries can make informed decisions that contribute to sustainability goals.
Stephanie, an Associate Principal at Arcadis, has emerged as a leader in material transparency, bringing extensive experience in material product research and preparation of specifications for projects across North America. In addition to being a Registered Specification Writer, she provides expertise in embodied carbon, circularity, material health, and social equity throughout the supply chain. She provides project teams guidance in material transparency for projects seeking LEED®, WELL®, and Envision™ certifications, and notably led the specifications development for Canada’s first Living Building Challenge project. With a creative approach, Stephanie excels at translating design intent into clear, precise specifications while mentoring staff and facilitating communication among project participants.
⚙️ Andrew Brassington — Technical Sales Manager, Western Canada at Owens Corning
Topic: Operational Sustainability - Industries and manufacturers can advance sustainability and operations by improving air tightness in buildings through stringent standards, technological innovations, and industry collaboration.
Andrew Brassington, CTR has been in the building construction manufacturing industry for over 15 years. He has worked for several large manufactures including Hilti, Rockwool, Henry and is the technical sales manager in western Canada for Owens Corning. Andrew currently sits as Chapter Director for Construction Specification – Edmonton Chapter as well as represents Owens Corning on the CHBA Net Zero Council. Presenting to countless architecture firms on building envelope topics including waterproofing, air barriers and building envelope insulation, he has become a resource for members of the building design industry.”
💡 Audrina Lima — Director, Carbon Transition at Chandos Construction
Topic: Implementation - Introduction to Canadian Construction Sustainability Alliance and its objectives including the impacts on drawing quality, schedules and operations. The Alliance aims to integrate sustainability into core construction operations while maintaining efficiency, affordability, and safety.
Audrina is an Australian and Canadian architect with over 20 years of professional experience. Her interest in ethical, sustainable development has empowered her to shift careers into the sustainability realm with Chandos Construction. Audrina’s role as the Director of Carbon Transition enables her to support Chandos to deliver lower carbon buildings, attain energy targets on buildings, research and develop climate resiliency strategies and reduce our GHG emissions in operations. Through her experience as an architect and management professional, Audrina brings a multidisciplinary aspect into her role and is excited to be collaborating with industry partners to build a resilient, low-carbon construction sector. Audrina also volunteers with the Calgary Construction Association on the Board of Directors and with Calgary Immigrant Women's Association as a mentor for Newcomer Professional Women.
