Join The Sussex Bird Club in-person in the library or online for a presentation by Don Freiday, whose misidentifications of birds span over 35 years, 49 states and 16 countries. He will recount some of the great mistakes of all time, made by him and other “expert” birders, and explore why even the best birders get more birds wrong than they would like you to know about.Don Freiday has been a wildlife professional for 32 years, with a career including the Cape May Bird Observatory; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service; New Jersey Audubon; Rutgers University; Hunterdon City, New Jersey Parks; and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. He specialized in the human dimensions of wildlife conservation, with substantial habitat management, academic, and wildlife research experience. Don operated a MAPS banding station for many years, and was a past member of the New Jersey Bird Records Committee, past editor of Records of New Jersey Birds, and board member of the New Jersey Chapter of The Wildlife Society for 6 years.
The Sussex Bird Club's primary objective is to promote the knowledge and enjoyment of wild birds through guided field trips and monthly meetings about various aspects of birding. Meetings are open to all and beginning birders are always welcome.
