About this Event
Join NYU Libraries to explore a15-year conversation between the Barbara Goldsmith Preservation and Conservation Department and Special Collections on John Stow’s The Survey of London, 5th edition (1754).
Charlotte Priddle (Director of Special Collections) and Lou Di Gennaro (Senior Special Collections Conservator) will explore the conservation treatment history of The Survey of London by John Stow. During this in-person event, our speakers will discuss their reasoning behind the re-evaluation of past treatment decisions, detail their recent conservation work, and explain the reintegration of previously removed materials—a unique feature of NYU’s 1754 5th edition. Attendees will also have the opportunity to examine two editions of The Survey of London from the NYU Special Collections: the 1618 3rd edition and the enlarged 1754 two-volume 5th edition.
This event is a part of the American Library Association, , which inspires action to preserve personal, family, and community collections in addition to library, museum, and archive collections. It also raises awareness of the role libraries and other cultural institutions play in providing ongoing preservation education and information.
The 2025 Preservation Week theme is Preserve the Past, Shape the Future: Inspiring the Next Generation.
As a part of NYU's commitment to global inclusion, our events and initiatives are open to all backgrounds and identities. This event is open to any interested individual, regardless of identity or background.
