About this Event
SURROUND SOUND SESSIONS is an event series that offers Black, Indigenous and People of Colour musicians the opportunity to perform and connect with one another in a more intimate setting. Artists will perform and engage in meaningful discussions, with topics including culture, identity, barriers and resources, as they relate to their experiences within the music industry.
This event could not be possible without our partnership with Community Music Schools of Toronto – a registered charity that gives children and youth a rich and rewarding music and social education, by removing the financial obstacle.
THEME: The theme of our event is culture, identity and representation in music. Our performances and discussions will all pertain to this topic.
PERFORMANCES/ATTENDANCE: Artists do not have to perform, but everyone in attendance will be a Black, Indigenous and/or Person of Colour artist in some capacity. We are welcoming all music-related talent in any genre – vocalists, instrumentalists, producers, composers and songwriters, DJs and digital musicians, and more – at any experience level (beginners are more than welcome!). You must be at least 16 years of age to attend.
TICKET COSTS: For our first event, we are following a pay-what-you-can model. We appreciate any and all donations, as they help cover project costs and give back to our community partners.
FOOD & BEVERAGE: Snacks, dinner and beverages will be provided. Please list any dietary restrictions accordingly.
CONSENT: Due to the nature of the project, and its involvement with Wilfrid Laurier University and the Community Music Program, participants may be asked to sign a consent form upon arrival.
PHOTO/VIDEO: Additionally, by attending Surround Sound Sessions, you consent to being photographed and/or video recorded for our social media and webpages.
Please Note: Surround Sound Sessions is dedicated to celebrating Black, Indigenous and People of Colour. This space is intentionally created to highlight the voices of those who are often overlooked in the music industry. Artists are invited, with our mission in mind, to join us in fostering a mutually supportive environment for meaningful experiences of creativity and connection.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out via email to [email protected] or Instagram @soulnoisecollective. Thank you :)
