About this Event
You are invited to attend a further conversation based on your working geography of Surrey. This session is for the West, Guildford, Waverly and Surrey Heath.
This is a follow on from our initial conversation workshops from May – August 2024 for Surrey’s Nature Recovery. You do not need to have atteneded these to attend this event.
We are busy analysing all the information from the workshop series, our online survey and a review of existing plans and strategies and will be producing a draft set of outcomes and actions that will make up the strategy.
You are invited to attend a further conversation where we will look to review this draft outcome list and add to the potential actions we will need to deliver to make them a reality.
These workshops are split by geography so please do try to attend the most relevant event to you, we will be starting at 9:45am and plan to finish by 3:00pm, this is a free event and lunch will be provided.
Surrey Nature Recovery
To find out more about Local Nature Recovery Strategies and how you can help develop one for Surrey visit, Have Your Say Today - Local Nature Recovery Strategy - Commonplace.
Required by law under the Environment Act 2021, every county in England needs to produce a Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS). The LNRS is a new spatial strategy to identify locations that will help to restore, enhance and connect the natural environment and create more wildlife-rich places. The strategy will also consider how nature recovery can provide other environmental benefits, such as carbon sequestration, flood regulation and access to nature-rich spaces where this is most needed for health and wellbeing.
The Local Nature Recovery Strategy will:
- Agree priorities for nature's recovery
- Map the most valuable existing areas for nature
- Map specific proposals for creating and improving habitat for nature and wider environmental benefits
Decisions about where and how to recover nature will be reached through consultation with a wide range of people and groups in each county, from ecologists and community groups to health professionals and local businesses.
In Surrey, we want everyone to have their say.
The LNRS will help to direct new funding streams for nature recovery from the public and private sector. It will also link with Biodiversity Net Gain, a new planning requirement to ensure habitat for wildlife is in a better state than it was before development.
