Join us for an evening of spectacular local music featuring Sarah Osborne & the Magic Buttons and r. mason.
Sultry folk with a psychedelic country twist, Sarah Osborne & the Magic Buttons will take you on a sparkly train ride textured by the changing seasons and a detour to the bottom of the sea. Hailing from a musical family and a background in biology, Osborne channels the rock n’ roll ballads of her childhood along with the beauty and harshness of the natural world. With her “Magic Buttons” (some of Victoria’s finest musicians), she kicked off 2022 as the Zone’s “Band of the Month “ and is currently celebrating the recent release of a 4 volume EP project entitled “SEASONS”.
r. mason filters soulful songwriting through explorative moods to cook up a project textured with paradox: lightness and tension, desperation and transcendence.
Songwriting shaped by childhood echoes of church music; passion writers like Bob Dylan, Josh Ritter and Kathleen Edwards; singers like Lana Del Ray, Nina Simone and Norah Jones; duos like Angus and Julia Stone; and composers like Eric Satie. Other early inspiration came from bands like Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones and Radiohead and guitar players like David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Kelly Joe Phelps, Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers and the sonic creativity and unorthodox playing style of Johnny Greenwood; more recent influences include Kevin Morby, Wilco and War on Drugs.
As r.mason, vocal tones with classically influenced electronic keys and gritty atmospheric guitar, immerse listeners into the heart and depth of their evocative soundscapes.
Presented by Surkeus.
