About this Event
Come soak up the late summer vibes with WOEIP and partners at West Oakland Farm Park, and meet the people who keep West Oakland green. Chat with tree care experts, mingle with your neighbors, and learn how you can contribute to a thriving urban forest in West Oakland for years to come.
Trees naturally remove pollutants from the air, and make communities more walkable and accessible. Restoring West Oakland's tree canopy can help address decades of inequitable urban planning.
- See if you’re eligible for a free tree in your front yard or at your sidewalk. Our tree team will even come plant it for you. We’ll help you fill out our interest form on the spot so you can get the process started. If you’ve already signed up for a tree, we’ll share updates on the process and answer any questions.
- Get answers for your tree planting and care questions. Not sure if you have space to plant a tree? Curious about root damage or pollen? Talk to arborists and urban forestry experts and find out what type of tree will work best for your space, and how to take care of it.
- Learn what trees need to thrive in West Oakland. From watering to trimming, we'll prepare you to take care of trees where you live and around your neighborhood. Consistent care early on can help trees live decades longer, so our urban forest can be enjoyed by future generations.
- Share your ideas for the future of West Oakland’s urban forest. Are there places you want to see more trees? Concerns about maintenance? We want to hear it!
- Plug into our stewardship coalition: a group of neighbors strategizing about how to expand and care for our urban forest. The city has limited capacity to maintain trees, but people are stepping up to fill the gaps. We’re bringing these efforts together to create a community-driven urban tree care plan.
