September will inevitably bring with it a number of children finding new transitions hard, this course explores how to help them go smoothly
About this Event

This course will explore some of the reasons children find transitions difficult and some effective strategies for how to best support them

This course is aimed at primary and secondary staff, but will be especially useful for Senior leaders, Senco's and pastoral staff involved in Transitions

The course will cover:-

  • High expectations/High support - Using the social discipline window to look at the impact of Covid and how we approach transitions whilst acknowledging potential child development gaps
  • Values - whether we want respect, collaboration, attainment, resilience or aspitaration for our young people. These must be built on a foundation of emotional safety
  • Replacing missing skills with a sequential approach- We have more children than ever with gaps in child development and difficulty managing their behaviour. We need to triage what those gaps are and have a plan to plug them
  • Building resilience - resilience is more than the ability to take knocks, we also need to give children the tools to have optimism and belief. We need our children to be courageous in their learning and that needs to be built
  • Good plans - The pre-transition plans are nothing more than a guideline, we need to adapt them as quickly and effectively as possible

The are the foundations of better classroom behaviour, higher academic attainment and successful transitions

Let's make those September transitions as successful as possible
