Join us for a powerful, culturally grounded educational experience created to support, affirm, and empower Black and African American individuals and families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, whether you are a caregiver now, anticipating future needs, or focused on protecting brain health across the lifespan.
Why This Matters
- Alzheimer’s and other dementias affect Black Americans across adulthood—not only in older age.
While 21.3% of Black Americans age 70 and older live with Alzheimer’s or another dementia, elevated risk often begins earlier, shaped by midlife factors (ages 45–64) such as high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, hearing loss, and limited access to preventive care. - Black Americans are about twice as likely as white Americans to develop Alzheimer’s or another dementia, yet are less likely to receive timely diagnosis and often enter care at later, more severe stages.
- Early cognitive changes also appear in midlife. More than 10% of Black adults age 45 and older report worsening memory or confusion, yet fewer than half discuss these concerns with a healthcare provider.
- Caregiving demands also begin earlier and fall disproportionately on Black families. Black caregivers are more likely to provide care without formal support, experience discrimination in healthcare settings, and report difficulty accessing culturally responsive dementia care.
What You’ll Gain
- Understand risk across the lifespan
Learn how dementia risk develops from midlife through older adulthood, recognize early warning signs, and understand how common chronic conditions in the Black community affect brain health. - Protect brain health with culturally relevant strategies
Take away practical, evidence‑based actions—rooted in faith, family, food, movement, and community—that support cognitive health and resilience. - Navigate caregiving with confidence
Gain tools to manage stress, advocate in healthcare settings, reduce burnout, and connect to trusted Alzheimer’s Association resources for Black caregivers. - Build community and reduce isolation
Connect with others who share similar experiences, exchange practical wisdom, and strengthen a supportive network grounded in trust and shared understanding.
