This SuperDebate event at CIC Boston offers a three hour live competitive debate environment for adults who care about ideas and want to test their thinking. The night includes up to six structured debate rounds. Participants choose whether to debate solo or with a partner. Spectators contribute by judging each round and scoring the arguments based on clarity, substance, and overall persuasiveness.
At the beginning of the session, attendees will submit potential debate topics. The group then votes to decide which topics will be used. The topics may range across science, ethics, politics, philosophical questions, technology, culture, and current global issues. The featured highlight topic for the Boston event is the following:
“Modern democracy has become more theatrical than representative, shaping public belief more than it reflects it.”
Debaters rotate through different opponents and sides of each issue so they practice seeing topics from multiple angles. After the final round, the event ends with an open conversation and feedback circle where debaters and judges share insights and reflect on what the debates revealed.
