Supercharge Your Writing - Conflict and Theme in Romantic Pairings

What are the premises and emotions that draw you to your favorite pairs in TV/movies and books? Let’s discuss conflict and theme relating to romantic pairings in your own WIP, using what you love about other stories to bring your own to life. 

Buffy and Angel, Chuck and Ned, Fleabag and the Priest, Romeo and Juliet, Queen Charlotte and King George from “Bridgerton”  - what makes us “eat up” these love stories? There is almost something narcotic about the hold they have on us, and many of us dream of writing our own pairing that will hook an audience like the above. My hypothesis is that the love we have for these pairs and others is a result of a promising premise (which contains a juicy conflict) and the theme of the work as a whole.  In this workshop, we will review these & other fictional relationships through the conflict/obstacles and theme in their respective works, discuss how to infuse theme throughout your work intentionally,  discuss fictional couples that YOU love and why, and generate ideas and examples of premises and conflicts for future or current works in progress.

This workshop is perfect for writers of any genre looking to add more depth to the romantic subplots in their story.
